Itinerary

Best of the day: Hike through the Ausangate Andes landscapes.

Our guide will pick you up at 5:30 AM from your hotel and take you on a 3-hour private drive to the town of Tinki. Here, you can experience the local culture, seeing how the villagers still wear traditional clothing. Afterward, we’ll take a 1-hour ride on a dusty road to Upis Pampa where the hike begins.

We’ll enjoy breakfast prepared by our chef before starting the 3-hour hike, which will take us through small villages and rivers until we reach Upis. Our tents will be set up for the night with a breathtaking view of Ausangate Mountain.

After lunch, you can choose to hike to Wayna Ausangate Lagoon, which takes 2 hours round trip, or relax in the nearby hot springs of Upis. Tea time will be served later, and you can enjoy snacks like popcorn, tea, coffee, and chocolate. At night, you’ll enjoy stargazing in the clear mountain sky.

You will be woken up at 5:30 AM with Coca tea, coffee, or hot chocolate delivered to your private tent. After a delicious breakfast, we’ll start the day with a 20-minute uphill hike to a viewpoint offering incredible views of Ausangate.

Then, we’ll hike up and down to visit the 7 Ausangate Lagoons, spending about 1 hour exploring this stunning natural wonder. Afterward, we’ll make our way to Pacchanta hot springs to relax in the warm waters with views of the snow-covered Ausangate.

After lunch, we’ll bid farewell to our team, including the chef and muleteers, and head back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 6:00 PM.

Recommendation

How many days do I need to acclimatize in Cusco before the Ausangate Trek?
We recommend arriving 2-3 days before your trek to acclimatize and avoid altitude sickness. If you're already at high altitude, a full day in Cusco is still suggested.

Pre-Trek Briefing
The briefing takes place at our office (or hotel) at 5:00 pm, the night before your trek. Duration: 30-45 minutes. If you cannot attend, please contact us for rescheduling.

Payment of Trek Balance
Any outstanding balance must be paid 2 days before departure. We accept cash (USD or local currency), credit/debit cards, or PayPal (5% service charge).

Duffel Bag
You will receive a duffel bag for your personal belongings (max 7 kg/15.4 lb). This includes your sleeping bag, mat, and other essentials.

Can I store my luggage?
Yes, you can store your main luggage at our office or your hotel at no extra charge. Ensure valuables are stored safely in the hotel’s secure box.

Hotel Pickup
We offer hotel pickup within the historical center of Cusco. Pickup times may vary by 30-45 minutes due to traffic.

Group Treks
Group tours have participants of varying fitness levels and speeds. The guide will ensure everyone can go at their own pace and will consult with the group before making any changes.

Strikes and Protests
Strikes and protests are common in Peru and may disrupt tours. We will do our best to keep the itinerary unchanged, even if this means leaving a day earlier. Any cancellations will be coordinated with you.

Lost Items
Please keep track of your belongings. You are responsible for your personal items throughout the tour.
