Itinerary
Highlight of the day: Learn all about the ancient Inca culture and observe its incredible craftsmanship.
Land in the city of Cusco and explore its sites
At 1:00 p.m., we’ll meet you in your hotel lobby to begin your tour. From here, you’ll head to Cusco’s Main Square, where you’ll visit the famous Cathedral. Next, you’ll walk along an ancient street built by the Incas from the Main Square to Q’oricancha, the Temple of the Sun. At Q’oricancha, you’ll compare and contrast the construction methods of Inca culture and Catholicism. This was a key spiritual center of the Incas, connecting the four regions of the Inca Empire. You’ll also see a bronze high altar.
From Q’oricancha, your group will walk along Avenida El Sol, where you’ll take a 25-minute bus ride outside the city. You’ll arrive at the majestic Inca site of Sacsayhuaman, with its enigmatic 200-ton monoliths. Listen to your guide’s explanation and then explore on your own.
From Sacsayhuaman, you’ll take a five-minute bus ride to the Inca site of Q’enqo to see its fascinating Inca altars. Next, a short five-minute drive takes you to Puca Pucara, a small circular Inca site. The last stop of our tour is Tambomachay, a water temple with impressive water fountains believed to have been used by the Incas for ritual baths. Afterward, we return to Cusco, ending the tour at the main square. If you’re on a private tour, we’ll drop you off at your hotel.
