Rainbow Mountain Tour

Frequently Asked Questions
Vinicunca is known as the “Mountain of Seven Colors” due to its vibrant, multicolored slopes. These colors result from the mineral deposits found in the mountain, which were revealed after the snow melted due to climate change.
The hike to Rainbow Mountain can be challenging due to the high altitude (over 5,000 meters/16,400 feet). It’s recommended to acclimate in Cusco for a few days before attempting the hike to avoid altitude sickness. However, with a guide from Tunqui Expeditions, you’ll have support along the way.
The best time to visit Rainbow Mountain is during the dry season, from April to October. During this period, the weather is clearer, offering better visibility of the mountain’s vibrant colors.
